Support Worker – Day Service O Brien Street, Tipperary Town (Maternity Cover)

Part-Time | 20 hours per week | Monday Tuesday & Wednesday‘s
Fixed-Term Maternity Cover Contract (6 months)
Start Date: 10th August 2026

MooreHaven was founded in 1981 to provide a day service for adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. Service users attend from within a 30-mile radius of Tipperary Town, covering parts of Counties Tipperary and Limerick, and have now grown to approximately 130. MooreHaven is an integral part of the local community and employs over 100 full and part-time staff.

Our services have expanded significantly over the years and now include Day Activation, Supported Work/Employment, Day Services, Training Programmes, and HIQA-registered Residential & Respite facilities.

Our mission is to promote and support independent living, community integration, personal development, and meaningful work opportunities for people attending our services.


Role Purpose

To support service users in their Day Service Programme, promoting independence, dignity, and personal development in line with person-centred planning.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute in a respectful and positive way to the wellbeing and development of service users, treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
  • Assist service users in developing their Person-Centred Plans and achieving their personal goals.
  • Support service users to become more self-reliant and foster independence in daily living skills.
  • Provide direct practical assistance, support, and guidance in activities of daily living.
  • Develop community networks and encourage natural supports, promoting valued social roles within the community.
  • Attend and actively participate in training to ensure compliance with organisational procedures and guidelines.
  • Report all accidents and incidents promptly to the line manager.
  • Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns in line with the National Policy on Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults.
  • Maintain accurate daily records and provide reports to the line manager as required.

Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong commitment to caring and an empathetic understanding of individuals with an intellectual disability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities is desirable.

Requirements

  • QQI Level 5 in Healthcare (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience supporting adults with an intellectual disability.
  • Full clean Irish/EU driving licence (learners with a test date booked may be considered).
